I sit here, two days after the final event of winter racing. Well winter racing isn’t officially over until March but my clubs winter series has wrapped up early incase outdoor racers want to get into the swing early.
So I’ve been prepared nearly a month. So much so that I have had two cars ready to go. I needed the odd bit, but my old x4 and my new 23 edition.
As per I did the usual prep on Saturday, diff and shocks, making them fresh. Packed my bags and helped the crew set the track up on the Saturday evening. As I run these events I want them to be as good as they can be. So the stage was set
Due to having a newborn, my nights sleep wasn’t the best. But I arrived before most of the racers to help finish up the venue and the track. Set my pit bench up and was ready. I was paranoid, I’d do something wrong or something smelt burnt.
So onto practice, and I was still in the top heat. A surprise given my recent results. So I took my time and did my thing, and the result was the fastest lap in practice by near three tenths. I was happy the car felt smooth but sometimes, a little loose
So back to the pits and through the procedure, tweak, droop, camber and toe followed by ride height. Batteries done, tyres juiced and round 1. The car was fast, Alex Brocklebank a good mate I’d raced all series let me through. And I put it to good effect pulling a gap. Last lap I tried to Chuck it away with a early turn in and crash. I landed wheels down, waited then went. Sportsmanship! And tq
The following three rounds went very much the same. I wanted Laps under my belt. Then I could discuss setups with some other U.K. drivers. I took all four qualifying rounds and the tq spot. The single legged final went mega. Alex followed close but caught one of the new curbs we had at the club. Rolling and going to the back of the field. Cruise control until the end, he would fight back to 2nd and it was a mega drive
The victory was bitter sweet. I’ve known this ability is in me given the car is underneath me. Such a shame the championship was over so fast. But hey that’s racing, it’s not life threatening. This would give me second in the championship and a stepping stone to the summer champs.
As always it’s a big thank you to those that’s support my programme. And to the close family and friends that make it worthwhile
Anyway enjoy the photo dump below
