If you’ve read the previous blog post you will understand I spent a lot of timing being ready for this meeting. I feel like I was kind of frazzled out. But no matter I was ready for the event.
I spent Saturday evening helping the club out together a really good track. It was fast, flowers and everyone enjoyed it
Sunday morning and as the face of the series I was at the venue early. Just after 7am. Setup and ready to go. Practice and the car felt good and I mean fast even in the low grip conditions. I didn’t do a full practice due to not wanting to push too hard.
Q1 the car felt good, I pressured Alex Brocklebank and his Schumacher early, I would close in then the mistakes happened. I had a biggish crash, and a body tuck, the front of the shell tucked giving me no the performance i needed. Had to pull in again and then add other mistakes. P4 ahh not ideal
Reset the car and went again and q2 was what I hoped. P1 the car felt dialled, and as I have come to expect. Q3 started strong and Guy Thornton and his Xray, pressured we managed to pull a gap and the fight for the top was between us. Again I caught one of the flappy corners rolled it and lost the time, still got p2. Last qualifying was all about getting the tq but doing it fast enough. In the end I was 1.5 seconds shy. Guy had an electrical issue, so I knew I could push but wasn’t fast enough.
Back to the pits and I found out bits were undone on the car, which is annoying as a driver, as more was on the table. I reset the car, and went for it in the singles legged final.
The final came and off the line we went, down into the slower section of the track in the bottom right. Guy got loose and I caught him, I get I was better on the brakes but caught him none the less. So I did the right thing pulled aside and waited for him to get going. Back of the pack. All to do. The car is fast my Nosram package in my x4 is something else. I pulled in drivers, made moves got back to fighting for the podium and bang mistakes. Catching a flappy corner. All my hard work. So I regrouped and went again knowing a podium was enough or would be enough given the hard work. I caught up to Dan Burks, he defended well but went deep and it was just what I needed. I got going but not enough time to catch those ahead. I set the fastest lap along the way, but it was a race of what could of been. Alex and Guy were fast. Alex may have not been the fastest al day but he did what he needed to. Right place, right time. I’ve had many a race like that. When they come along you take them with both hands.
So that was that, I apologised to Guy and we have no issues. It’s rc cars at the end of the day. If we have sponsors or not, we’re not paid to do it.
So what next. Well my stuff will remain packed away for a week. Last week Burned me out. I normally have my car prepared in good advance and can chill come Saturday. But no this time. I will then prep my x4, my new 23 x4 and my spare car of my xray 21. Used by my mate who did well. I will then attend a club night at newark to hopefully bed some tyres in. Then I’ll be ready for Louth the weekend after. I’m gonna try my best
Sponsors and support mean a lot to me and I try to do the best for them. But we will re gather and go again ✊✌️
